The Manhattan FISH MARKET Introduce Beefier Catch

For the first-time ever, The Manhattan FISH MARKET ventures out of the sea to catch hold of cows in their fishing net, putting forth an exciting culinary challenge for the brand to bring out the best of beef with seafood. And introducing Beefier Catch, the brand's latest series of 4 dishes spotlighting beef. I was excited yet curious to what is incorporated into the new menu before this session.

The restaurant's edition of Beef Rib is marinated with rosemary, thyme, oregano, garlic and French mustard to elevate the flavours of the protein, followed by 12 hours of baking to attain that texture and aroma. The question is, 12 hours of baking really? Read more to find out.

Started off the meal with some interesting beverage that were recommended to us - Happiness Infusion $6 (front) and Passionate Peach $6 (foreground).

I would prefer the Happiness Infusion among this two. Its earl grey tea with lemongrass infusion, together with the sweetness of strawberry and lychee.

From left to right, we have Brooklyn Sunset $5.50 and Melon Breeze $5.50. I would recommend having the Brooklyn Sunset, with luscious mango juice and a touch of strawberry for a sweetness.

Gummy Bear $5.50 - The name itself has already attract attention, let alone the blue coral color. It is an interesting combination of curacao and tropical fruit mix. I have to say the drinks at Manhattan were unique and refreshing.

Moving on to bites, here's Onion Glory $7.95. These crispy battered onion strips is deep-fried to golden brown and served with an Onion Glory Dip. Yikes, its pretty addictive!

A new addition to the menu, here's Oyster Roulette $7.95. 1 of the 4 poached oyster shooters comes with an extra shot of spiciness. I feel its subjective to the definition of spiciness as different people has different threshold to spicy. At our table, we can't identify who took the extra shot because everyone says it wasn't spicy.

Oyster taste wise, it would be better if its fresher. The 'fishy' taste was quite distinctive and we didn't enjoy it although with lemon and chili.

Moving on to the highlight for the night, the Beefier Catch menu! Please note that this menu is only available till 31st May 2015.

Introducing the first out of the 4 dishes, here's Handmade Beef Patty & Tempura Prawns Burger $15.95. This rendition of burger is packed together with a handmade beef patty marinated with oregano, rosemary, garlic, onion and deep fried tempura prawns.

It is then topped with melted cheese and tomatoes with a side of greens and french fries. The beef patty was firm yet moist in flavour, its not bad.

Oven Baked Beef Rib & Grilled Ocean Perch $25.95 - The highest cost among the 4, of course with a  combination of Beef Rib and fish. Beef rib is marinated with similar spices as the beef patty, rosemary, thyme, oregano and french mustard. Paired with grilled ocean perch resting on a bed of creamy mashed potatoes.

*You can opt to swap the ocean perch with premium choices - Salmon (addition of $1) or Cod (addition of $2).

The beef rib is baked for 12 hours and accompanied by homemade brown sauce with a hint of black pepper. The texture of the rib is near to medium rare so is it possible to oven baked for 12 hours?

Handmade Beef Patty & Bouillabaisse $16.95 - the beef patty is the same marination as the burger earlier but the texture for was so much softer and juicy, questioning consistency. It is then topped on a sea of curry bouillabaisse, with a variety of mussels, squids and dory fish in the stew.

The stew tasted similar to Indian fish curry that we all are familiar dipping with pratas. The cross over fusion was unique but nothing fanciful in my opinion.

Lastly here we have Oven Baked Beef Rib & Flaming Prawns $23.95. Love the signature flaming prawns which is gloriously flamed for extra caramelized sweetness. This dish is almost the same as the previous, just that this is flaming prawns while the other is grilled ocean perch.

Mashed potato were dry and hard even with the sauce. The second beef rib we had here was a lot tougher and dry as compared to the first one we had. Consistency is the flaw here.

We ended off the mains with Manhattan's signature Manhattan Flaming Seafood Platter $38.95, no doubt it is everyone's number 1 choice at Manhattan. This platter serves up generous portions of hand bettered fish fillets, oysters and calamari. The highlight was the flaming prawns!

Capped off the meal with desserts, here's Strawberry Flamin-Go $4.95. Mango pudding and strawberries are drizzled with chocolate sauce and topped with flamed marshmallows. The combination didn't go well especially with the poor quality of chocolate sauce. It felt like I could easily make this at home, wouldn't go for this.

Next we had the Manhattan Mud Pie $5.95 which look sinfully delicious. A portion of gooey chocolate ice-cream filling and a icy texture of chocolate on the other side. It is then top with Oreo chocolate crust and drizzled with chocolate syrup. Overall average, but probably the best among the 3 desserts served.

The last dessert we had is Sizzling Banana Fritters with Ice-cream $7.95. Hot and crispy banana fritters in sizzling coconut cream topped with chocolate ice-cream. A simple yet interesting dish here but it could be better if the chocolate ice cream is of higher quality.

At the The Manhattan FISH MARKET, no doubt the Manhattan Fish ‘n ChipsSingle Garlic Herb Mussels and Manhattan Flaming Seafood Platter were our favorite ever since it arrived in Singapore. There are rooms for improvement with the Beefier Catch but it's worth a try. This is available at all The Manhattan FISH MARKET's 16 outlets from 1 April 2015 - 31 May 2015 (while stocks last).
