Bistro 1855 located at Suntec City is a salad bar by day and wine bistro by night. Lunch is helmed by a contemporary Salad Bar Buffet with more than
50 items to choose. When night falls, Bistro 1855 transforms into a wine bar, dishing out tapas, mains and sharing platters, paired with selection
of house wines.
BISTRO 1855 is the inspiration of a partnership between Onion Restaurant and Bar Pte Ltd
and sister company 1855 The Bottle Shop. At the Bottle Shop, it house more than 1000 labels in their wine cellar. Customers can also select wines from the cellar, and drink in at Bistro 1855, at
pocket friendly retail pricing.
One of their bar bite
during dinner time, here's Bistro 1855 Chicken Wings $10. The wings
are marinated with their in-house garlic soy teriyaki glaze before it is deep
fried to crispy and juicy within. It was crunchy and packed with flavour, however this
sure reminds me of 4 fingers garlic wings.
Another top item to best pair with wine, pizza! Here's Truffle Pizza $26, thin crust spread over with blue cheese, baby spinach and truffle salsa and egg. This is definitely a truffle lover dish.
We tried 2 different item in one plating. The one on the left is obviously the Crispy Pork Belly $10, serve with tropical salsa at the usual plating. The crackling on the pork belly is crispy with layers of lean meat and fats. Overall these few slices of pork belly were full of goodness. Best pair with a mug of beer.
On the right is the Squid Ink Otak with Lobster $14, a creative twist to the local otak dish. With a mix of otak fish, lobster meat and squid ink, interesting I would say but can't seems to taste the lobster meat.
My favorite main from
Bistro 1855 is the Wagyu Rump Steak $32 served with rustic
fries at the side. This slightly more expensive char-grilled 200gm wagyu steak
is perfectly seared, retaining it's slightly charred exterior while tender within accompanied with red win jus. If you're looking at quality steak to pair with premium wines without breaking the
bank, this wagyu rump steak will definitely satisfy.
Lastly, we capped off the meal with this interesting dessert - Fresh Turkish Figs, Manuka Honey Ricotta, Berry with Pistachio Vanilla Crumb S$16. Not my kind of dessert though, I would only recommend this if you're a fan of figs, if not just skip this and go for something else.
At Bistro 1855, their intention is to bring about a wine and dine experience
for consumers. If you're a fan of wines, you will definitely enjoy
the range of selections at 1855 The Bottle Shop. Will probably check out their
Boston Lobster Roll $24 and their salad bar buffet the next time during lunch.
With that, Bistro 1855 is indeed a great spot for a chill-out evening with alfresco seating.
