**UPDATE: Shift to Level 2 at POMO as Montana Singapore
Montana, an urban chic coffee brew bar specializing in waffles and coffee has recently opened it's door and is already gaining popularity over it's unique and worth value items. Ever since it's first opening in the beginning of the year, the highly raved waffles from Montana is often seen on social media platform. Montana is brought to you by the same folks behind Roosevelt Diner & Bar that is located at Outram Park.
Though Montana offers burgers, salad and sandwiches - the folks are all about waffles, ranging from sweet to savory kind. The waffles at Montana are not your ordinary waffle with egg/bacon but with an innovative twist incorporate in their recipe.
The menu at Montana is pretty extensive considering it's shoe box size stall. The first thing that caught my attention upon looking is the Truffle Jalapeno Mac & Cheese.
For coffees at Montana, you're able to choose your preferred espresso coffee beans - Montana House blend and Selegie Blend. Or if you're going for the slow bar kind of brew, you're given the option your brewing method, Pour over or Aeropress for your coffee. Latte starting at $4.50 to $5 for mocha.
We started off with Truffle Jalapeno Mac & Cheese 2.0 ($11.50). I like how Montana is open to feedback and is constantly working on their recipe to make it better. We had the version 2.0 and I felt that it's of good quality already, cheesier and stronger truffle!
Don't let these plain looking waffles deceived you, on top of their strong truffle fragrant, these are infused with mac and cheese within. It comes with Jalapeno sauce where you can dip your waffle for an extra punch. I would suggest dipping, it's pure shiok-ness.
Montana is probably the first in Singapore to incorporate mac and cheese into their waffles. Most people would expect it to ooze with cheese but it's the dryer version at Montana. Even if it's not 'wet' enough, the taste itself is overwhelming. And for that price, its' a steal! Highly recommended.
Would suggest to eat while it's hot, so take your food-fie quickly!
Another signature waffle at Montana - Southern Fried Chicken Wafflewich ($9.50). If you're a big fan of waffle and fried chicken like myself, try this rendition served with mustard coleslaw instead of wasabi slaw. This is version 2.5, they have revised the recipe to serve it better.
At Montana, you can choose how you want your waffles to be like. It's recommended that savory goes with the big crunch while the sweet ones goes with the fluffy souffle kind of base.
We were planning to try out the Red Velvet Waffle Stack but it was sold out so here's Matcha Strawberry Field Waffles ($9.50). Green tea waffles, strawberry, mango passion fruit spheres and topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Oh, drizzle with white chocolate sauce too!
That moment the passion fruit spheres burst in your mouth, sweet! The matcha waffles at Montana is slightly bitter in the aftertaste but it's perfectly fine for me. The waffles were slightly dense and fluffy, I'm all in for sweet waffles.
Montana's hard work are seen as they constantly improve their items, making sure it's of good quality to offer customers. The prices are pretty affordable at Montana, lower than the usual cafes offering, considering it's location is in the heart of Orchard. If you fancy good coffee and waffles, this is an ideal place for you. The waffles and coffee are good enough for me to revisit. Be sure to check out Nookie yogurt at the same area, opened by the same folks too.
Dhoby Ghuat area might have a lack of coffee places to visit other than The assembly ground, I'm glad there's other options now. Montana would be one of my choice for cuppa in town. Students studying nearby will be entitled to discount, be sure to check with staff :)
