To Koreans, it's all about fried chicken and beers! With over 100 outlets spanning South Korea, China and Taiwan, Chir Chir Fusion Chicken Factory has finally arrived in Singapore at 313@Somerset and is set to captive palates with an array of chicken dishes and alcoholic beverages. I'm a big fan of korean fried chicken and when I know that Chir Chir arrives in Singapore, I can't contain my excitement.
Chir Chir is pronounced as chi-ruh chi-ruh, it gets it's name from the bubbling sound that oil makes when the chicken hits the deep-fryer. Everyone has their definition of 'frying' sound so yeah you might want to figure out!
The folks at Chic Chi uses only fresh, not frozen, chicken married with a myriad of special garlic-soy, spicy and cream-based sauces and even whipped cream. All of these are imported from Seoul to ensure consistency in flavour across Chir Chir's outlets worldwide.
To complement the slew of fried and roasted chicken dishes on the menu, Chir Chir offers intriguing thirst-quenchers such as Tok! Tok!; a collection of 4 flavoured mocktails. Such as passion fruit, blue lemonade, green grape and berries.
$14.90 (per jug, non-alcoholic) / $18.90 (per jug, alcoholic)
It can be turned into cocktails with the addition of soju; LadyKiller, a mojito slushie that replenishes itself with an upside-down bottle of beer. Mad love this refreshing drink, will opt for the blue lemonade!
Chir Chir Beer $13.90 (350ml) / $18.90 (650ml) - draught beer topped with freshly whipped cream. This is inspired by a 'latte kiss' shared between the lead actors in a hit Korean drama, Secret Garden. The airy foam is meant to leave a moustache on the girl's upper lip, which her partner should help clean up with a tender kiss.
Honey Grape Salad $18.90 - featuring sweet seedless green grapes with walnuts, pine nuts and almonds. This fruit and nut salad comes dressed with dollops of house-made ricotta and whipped cream. Topped with crispy shards of baked tortilla drizzled with honey and sprinkled with minced garlic. I could do without the whipped cream though. But I've to say this salad is rather addictive.
Mango Salad $11.90 - Rejuvenate any chickened-out tastebuds with this refreshing salad of mixed greens topped with ripe, juicy mangoes, blueberries and yoghurt dressing. I like how the mangoes were sweet unlike the sour ones I usually get in elsewhere. Overall decent but nothing impressive.
Chir Chir's signature fried chicken is available in Crispy, Garlicky and Spicy, can be enjoyed whole, wings only or as boneless tenders. Do note that all poultry are freshly fried only upon ordering and takes about 8-12 minutes to be ready.
Garlicky Wings $28.90 (7 drumlets + 7 wings) - the deep fried chicken wings are then topped with roasted sweet potatoes and fried toppoki in their house-made soy sauce, sprinkled with minced garlic and fried garlic cloves. The fried toppoki (korean rice cakes) were so chewy and tasty. This dish definitely reminds you of fast food chain, 4 Fingers. But to be honest, I prefer Chir Chir.
Spicy Wings $28.90 (7 drumlets + 7 wings) - this time chicken wings with a sticky sweet-spicy chilli sauce that packs a real punch. A must try for those who love their spice.
If you were to ask me, for sure the Garlicky wings for me!
And of course the highlight at Chir Chir, Crispy Fried Chicken $26.90 or Crispy Fried Wings ($26.90 for 7 pcs). It is marinated for 6 hours in Chir Chir's house seasoning before being battered and deep-fried. The succulent flesh is tasty from skin to bone, served along with salsa and honey mustard sauce.
Pair this with a cup of beer and I call this happiness. Chir Chir is going to be my top few options to fix my fried chicken crave in future.
One of my favorite dish for the night besides fried chicken, Nest Snow $32.90. It is served on a hotplate, these spicy Cajun chicken tenders is rested on a bed of sweet potato puree luxuriating in a cream sauce. Drizzle with shavings of parmesan, mozzarella and cheddar making this dish unique. As usual, I could do without the whipped cream. Was pleasantly surprise to find that sweet potato puree goes really well with the cream sauce.
Consume it while it's hot and coat the chicken tenders in cream sauce - shiok.
Spicy BBQ Roasted Chicken $32.90, whole chicken is marinated for 12 hours then oven-roast and pan-fried with a fiery BBQ sauce. Each of this dish is accompanied with salsa, a whole salt-baked egg and a fluffy baked potato with sour cream. I personally prefer the fried chickens still as this one is slightly too spicy for my liking.
