Kuishin Bo Japanese Buffet, Suntec City Singapore

Roosted in the new north wing of Suntec City is Kuishin Bo's newest restaurant, where the Japanese buffet brand boasts a sprawling interior fitted with wooden beams. The buffet line-up running from sashimi and sushi to yakitori and agemono has no doubt provide a complete Japanese epicurean experience. I think the most attention-grabbing is the Kids Haven corner which is exclusive to Kuishin Bo Suntec City only.

Plus point for interior effort here, quirky sake barrel-shape booth seats and vintage beer posters is incorporate into the scene. As well as decked paper lanterns that cast a warm glow against light wood panels. Vibrant and cosy at the same time, accompanied with a hot glass of sencha.

More than just a buffet, it includes introduction of quarter thematic food fairs showcasing gastronomic highlights from various regions in Japan. Like the photo above, from now to 27th September 2015, you will see an array of delicacies from Kyushu and Okinawa.

Items are available daily during both lunch (1130am-3pm) and dinner (530pm-10pm) seating.

How nice of Kuishin Bo to have each item accompanied by an educational card elaborating on the history and inspiration behind it. One of the eye-catching item, Mentaiko Takana Chahan. A dish of fried rice with pickled mustard leaf, sesame seeds and cod fish roe.

At the entrance, you will be greeted with 7 over sections: Salads & Appetizers; Sushi, Sashimi, Seafood; Teppanyaki; Paper Hot Pot; Fried Food; Soups; and Desserts.

Was surprised to find Taiyaki here in the buffet line up, just that it is cut into half. For those of you who doesn't know what that is, it is a Japanese fish-shaped cake. It is commonly filled with red bean paste that is made from sweetened azuki beans.

Japanese mochi with peanut and red bean filling. They were surprisingly good, pillow-soft dumplings of chewy glutinous rice flour stuffed with eponymous fillings.

Not to be missed at the dessert display, filled with assorted tarts, cakes and konnyaku. Also the beguiling 'waterfall' of Chocolate fondue, in which a selection of cut fruits and cookies can be blanketed.

Interesting serving plates, pretty partitioned for desserts. Zoom right to the earl grey Swiss rolls and mochis!

Ice cream station featuring 3 flavours - chocolate, strawberry and green tea. Toppings and sauce are available as well such as mango and strawberry sauce.

At the seafood counter, where you will find various sashimi. One of the most sought-after items in the buffet line-up is the Salmon Sashimi, which is imported from Norway weekly but descaled, filleted and dispatched to the restaurant daily.

Assorted sushi, udon and soba to pick from. You can probably DIY your own soba dish like how we did below :P Final touch to it with a onsen tamago!

Still at the seafood line up, where snow crabs, fresh prawns, scallops, mussels, oysters are available. Note that only during dinner hours, there will be a free flow of Zuwaigani (snow crabs).

Highlights from the hot food counter are grilled Teppan Beef, Australian Angus Sirloin Beef and BBQ Lamb garlic miso which uses premium shoulder blade chop from New Zealand. Some Teppanyaki and grilled items from the buffet, as well as a special item from the Kyushu & Okinawa fair - Yuzukosho Chicken Wing.

Most attention grabbing is the Kids Haven corner which is exclusive to Kuishin Bo Suntec City. Rows of vivid-hued masks depicting well-known Japanese cartoon characters like Doraemon and Pikachu. Colored lanterns and a pretty ceiling fixture of 'sakura' flowers dangle overhead.

On weeknights and weekends, the designed low counter are laden with kids friendly dishes such as Chicken Ragout Spaghetti, Chicken Karaage and Curry Cream Baked Rice. And takoyaki!

In addition, irresistible snacks like popcorn and DIY ice kacang is included as well.

A wide selection of Paper hot pot soups, from chicken to pork and beef in different broth.

What's a Japanese dining experience without Ramen right? Hot udon, hot soba and a special Okinawa ramen dish to select from. We had the Okinawa Soki Soba for something different, the broth was rich in flavour but unfortunately it turns out oily.

Something that is not often seen in Japanese buffet establishments, Here's Tebichi Oden which is also one of the item from the Kyushu & Okinawa fair. Oden is basically a Japanese winter dish consisting of various ingredients such as radish, Japanese fishcakes, pig trotter stewed in light, soy flavored dashi broth.

This is indeed the best comfort food, make a beeline for the nourishing Ginseng Scallop Porridge; cooked with Korean ginseng and dried scallops. Such flavorful porridge!

Lastly with the fried food counter, such as soft shell crab, tempura ebi, cuttlefish etc.

A limited time promotion only exclusively for Suntec City outlet, each diner is entitled to a half grilled lobster with cheese when reservations are made before 3pm.

While some may say the cost at Kuishin Bo is slightly steeper than other Japanese buffet establishments but I feel it is worth as it got almost everything to complete a Japanese epicurean experience. Especially if you love seafood like sashimi and snow crabs! Don't forget to keep an ear out for the iconic 'dong dong dong' bell, which alters diners to hourly 'specials' of limited quantities, such as Japanese desserts, abalone and more.
