Introducing Hong Kong's latest food trend 'Steam-potting' where ingredients are freshly steamed using high-speed steaming technology. Nestled in Serangoon Gardens, Steam Box is a brand-new steam hot pot specialist, embracing high-speed steaming. Savour a wide variety the healthy way, all dishes take two to six minutes to be cooked.
Steam Box also offers a wide variety of ingredients in it's extensive menu. Some of the mainstays include Chinese-style ginger chicken thigh with wolfberry and marinated minced pork with salted fish. Also, all seafood are delivered to the restaurant every morning so you can expect fresh clams, crayfish, barramundi and crabs. I would recommend to go with the Barramundi $18, the meat is succulent and best go along with the seafood sauce.
Just like any other modern hot pot restaurants, an array of different condiments are available. Do note that free flow of condiments are chargeable at $2.50 per person. Apart from the usual ones, there are some sauces that are specially prepared by the chefs at Steam Box - such as Seafood spicy and sour sauce and Black pepper meat sauce.
The steaming time takes just 2 to 6 minutes for a dish to be cooked. The color of the plate dictates the steaming time, this can be done by referring to the table allocated below the steamer setting. Hassle free!
While you are steaming your food at the top tier of the steamer, you can choose to cook congee at the bottom. There are two different types congee to pick from - Pork rib with century egg and Clam, dried scallop and ginger slice.
I personally like the clam and dried scallop congee while the scallop gives away a hint of sweetness which I find it really enjoyable. The essence and juices of the ingredients are collected below the steaming plate to cook the accompanying congee, comfort food at it's best.
Similar to hot pot dining, all the ingredients are brought to the table raw and just simply steam them using the high-speed steaming technique. With this steaming method, it promise a healthy indulgence.
Imagine having to steam your own dim sum dishes and eat it right after! This is probably one of the few places in Singapore where you get to do this. Choices of dim sum dishes like Pumpkin Dumpling $5.80, Otah Siew Mai $4.80, Carrot Cake and Liu Sha Bao $4.80! Yes, luscious molten liquid liu sha!
So now, who says steam food is always bland and unappealing? The steaming process is fast and hassle free, it also locks in the natural juices and nutrients of the ingredients. This new way of enjoying steamboat is beginning to be one of my favorite place for comfort food. The older folks in my household definitely love this!
