Tiong Bahru Bakery launched Savoury Croissants

Who says that a croissant should be restricted to a fate of being sweet, smeared with jams or split into halves to sandwich some tuna mayo? There's no boring, bog-standard mayonnaise-loaded fillings at Tiong Bahru Bakery and with that, the folks are introducing four savory croissants. three of which has fillings baked inside the buttery dough for a veritable party of flavours. Exciting creations.

The creative folks have cooked up a myriad of contemporary, taking inspiration from dishes we all love today - molten egg ramen, onion jam with sausage, xiao long bao and salmon and spinach. These unique flavours complements well with the crispy croissants, the dough is moist to contrast with the flaky layers.

Tiong Bahru Bakery's new savory croissants are namely:

Cheeky Chicken Savory Croissant
Flying Pig Savory Croissant
Rolling Dumpling Savory Croissant
Jumping Fish Savory Croissant

These savory croissants are served as a pair with a side of fresh salad with Yuzu dressing, topped with seeds, nuts & dried fruits that makes a perfect lunch set at $12. Ala carte savory croissants are at $4.50 per piece.

For beverages, there is coffees, tea as well as fresh juices. Among the 5 juices, we were recommended to go with The Great C $7 which is basically a mixed of freshly squeezed orange and grapefruit. It was a refreshing combination of both, no doubt a remedy for a humid day.

Something you can't miss when dining at Tiong Bahru Bakery, their signature Kouign Amann $3.50. A Breton cake containing salted butter and sugar round the pastry puff. This is officially my favorite item here and will always go back for this. Yes you mustn't leave without having this.

Another crowd's favorite at Tiong Bahru Bakery - Chocolate Almond Croissant $3.80. Icing sugar coated over the chocolate croissant, sinful but so damn good. Go for the Almond Croissant as an alternative if this is too sweet for you. Always love their fresh and flaky pastry puff.

From extreme right to left for first basket:

Flying Pig Savory Croissant - Baked with a layer of caramelized onion jam, tangy sun-blushed tomatoes, piquant pork sausage and a light drizzle of miso dressing. Undeniably, this is my favorite one.

Rolling Dumpling Savory Croissant - This is inspired for the love of Xiao Long Bao, stuffed with minced pork and then topped with sesame seeds. After, it is finished with a smear of pickled ginger and black vinegar sauce, topped with fresh chives. Interesting rendition, perfect for XLB fans.

Cheeky Chicken Savory Croissant - Tiong Bahru Bakery's modern take on the usual egg mayo. The centre is stuffed with a molten Ramen egg, a smear of mayonnaise, umami bonito flakes and a sprinkle of Togarashi to kick up the heat. My first reaction of this was 'Wow', this is a genius creation. Damn so good.

Jumping Fish Savory Croissant - This is packed with Superfoods - Salmon, spinach and ricotta are baked into the flaky dough, topped with creme fraiche, curls of smoked salmon and fresh dill. Nothing out of the world but it sure taste good with the usual classic ingredients.

Besides the newly launched savory croissants which has fillings baked inside the buttery dough for extra juiciness, there is also a wide range of  impressive sandwiches and pastries to pick from. Best to pair along with a cuppa, from the specialty bar by CMCR.

Not forgetting the sweet treats available at Tiong Bahru Bakery as well.

With other branch at Raffles City/Orchard being more centralized, Tiong Bahru Bakery has always been one of my favorite spot for catching up on my work along with coffee and bites. Despite a higher price tag for pastries here, some of the favorites do keep me coming back for more. Anyway, don't forget the four new savory croissants are available from 1130am - 3pm daily, at all Tiong Bahru Bakery outlets.
