I'm thankful to have the honoured to witness an exclusive live Bluefin Tuna cutting demonstration performed by Chef Mizu San. This live demonstration has indeed transport me back to the heart of the Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo, which is celebrated as the largest and number one fish market in the world.
Learnt something new: Different parts of the tuna is served in different dishes.
The star of the feast is the rich and buttery 56kg northern bluefin tuna, imported directly from Amami Oshima, Japan. Highlights amongst the tuna dishes include Chutoro Sashimi at only $18, Chutoro Nigiri and Negitoro Temaki at only $3, special Tuna burger at $14 and many more.
Chef Mizu San presenting the cut bluefin tuna!
Started off with 2 alcoholic drinks, peach and plum respectively.
Chutoro Nigiri - the sliced tuna from before rested on a lump of sushi rice. I wish I could describe to you how good this is. This is like the freshest sushi I've ever had, other than those I had in Japan :P
Negitoro Temaki - Temaki is basically hand roll and negitoro temaki is bluefin tuna stuffed within. For optimal taste and texture, hand roll must be eaten quickly after made before it starts to get moisture and loses its crispness. Overall decent, there were too much rice within.
Tuna Hamburger $14 - Unlike your typical can tuna, it's pan fried minced bluefin tuna. I was told that it is cooked in the western style (with cheese & fries) and served in the Japanese style which explains why there were no burger breads. This was my first time having a tuna hamburger, I must say it's tasty!
Chutoro Sashimi - Total shiokness and freshness. There weren't any fishy taste and it's so fresh that it sort of melts in your mouth on your first bite. Sigh it's so good, I'm not kidding. Highly recommended.
Lastly for the tuna dishes, here we have Negitoro Chirashi. The rice grain used were from Hokkaido, slightly more fragrant than the usual sushi rice. I wish they used Chutoro in the Chirashi instead of Negitoro. Overall, it was rather average but the miso soup is really tasty. Unlike the usual from other Jap restaurants.
Besides the tuna dishes, we got to try the huge Boston lobster as well! The meat within were so fresh and succulent, every bite full of satisfaction. Be sure to dip into the sauce given, especially the garlic butter sauce, my eye literally lit up after I took a bite of it.
Pacific Oysters - fresh as usual, seafood lovers will definitely love this.
From now till January 2015, purchase a lobster and enjoy oysters at 50% off.
