Lola's Cafe Singapore, Simon Road

If you're into the cafe hopping scene, Lola's cafe would be no stranger to you. Located near the entrance of Simon Road, a stone away from Kovan MRT station. They're known for their long waiting time, I've heard the longest was up to 4 hours during the weekend crowd.

What I like about Lola's cafe is, they offers pretty decent main courses all below $16. Brunch menu (10am-3pm) and dinner (6pm-10pm) are rather affordable, being wallet friendly. You would know that dining at cafes these days isn't cheap at all, a typical big breakfast plate can cost you up to $28.

The shoe box size cafe has a limit to it's seating capacity, being small and cosy. Eavesdropping into another table's conversation is no surprise at all, because of the close seating space.

The menu is pretty extensive considering the small space of the cafe. Brunch is served from 10am-3pm and dinner from 6pm-10pm. Kitchen will be closed during 3pm-6pm, only cakes and coffees are available.

Will always order Truffle fries whenever it's available on the menu. The portion given at Lola's wasn't a lot considering that it cost $12. The truffle oil infuse wasn't stronger and lacking. Symmetry has the best truffle fries for me till date.

The coffee beans used here are from Dutch Colony Coffee Co. and they were sadly disappointing. My first Cafe Latte ($5.50) I had was so bitter even spamming sugar didn't help. My second Mocha ($5.50) was slightly better but no where impressive. This wouldn't be an ideal place for caffeine fix.

Decided to try a non-caffeine beverage this time, with Matcha Green Tea Latte ($5). Overall, it's pretty decent but definitely not the best I had.

Moving on to starters, they're known for their highly raved Honey Paprika Crispy Wings ($10). Well marinated with spices and honey, fried to golden crispy - Thumbs up. I'll be back for this!

For brunch, we had one of their signature mains which is Breakfast Butter Croissant ($13). It's basically butter croissant stuffed with scrambled eggs, honey bacons, pork ham, cheddar cheese, cajun mayo and garden salad at the side. Taste was decent overall, a balanced of sweet honey bacons and salty pork ham.

Obviously we picked the wrong choice, here's Lola's Full Monty Breakfast ($15). A very simple dish that can be easily done at home - brioche bread, pork sausage, honey bacons, pork ham, scrambled eggs and garden salad. Felt that it wasn't worth the money. With just 4 ingredients, definitely not a 'full' breakfast set. I personally didn't like the idea of sweetening the bacons, it took away the flavour from the saltiness of the bacon strip :(

Overall, a nice place to chill with affordable mains/ starters. Desserts wise, just a small range of cakes. I wouldn't suggest queuing for more than an hour for this. But I'd definitely be back for their Avocado Eggs Benedict and Honey paprika wings!
