Tensho by MOF - Japanese Tendon @ The Centrepoint

Yet another Tendon contender, Tensho (天勝) by the Ministry of Food (MOF) has recently opened a Japanese speciality tendon store at the basement of Centrepoint. In the midst of the Tendon hype and benchmark set by Ginza Itsuki and Kohaku, the arrival of Tensho makes tendon lovers comparing back to them.

There are two options on the menu, pretty straightforward - Mixed Tendon S$14.90 or Vege Tendon S$13.90. I will definitely suggest going for the mixed tendon at that price unless you are vegetarian. All tendon set comes with a miso soup and chawanmushi, the latter actually taste pretty good.

The variety of fried tempura here at Tensho is much lesser than the other two tendon stalls, with only prawns, dory fish, onsen egg and vegetables on a bowl of mixed tendon. The homemade special tempura sauce was subtle, couldn't taste any hint of flavour. While on the other hand, the Japanese rice was overly moist and lumpy.

The tempura batter were slightly crisp with a crunch, while the onsen egg needs more work - some of ours were over-cooked. Tensho was overall decent, just the lack of variety for the same value as others. But one thing for sure, the ventilation here is the best among the rest. I was asked a couple of times regarding the best Tendon among the rest, well I personally like the spicy rendition at Kohaku Tendon and overall combination at Ginza Itsuki. But unfortunately, the beyond nasty ventilation at Ginza keeps me away.
