Nestled in the lush surroundings of Bedok Reservoir, Burp Kitchen & Bar is a cosy little gastropub that serves up western cuisines with an Asian twist. Overlooking the scenic view of Bedok Reservoir Park, Burp is a great spot to unwind especially if you stay nearby, alongside with their affordable and extensive menu.
Started off the meal with alcoholic beverages since Burp is a specialized bar. Fret not, there are mocktails and soft drinks if you do not take alcohol. Worth mentioning cocktails are Lychee Caprioska $11 and Tiramisu $12.50.
The extensive menu offers a range of bar bites and mains, such as bar grub, burgers, pasta, quesadilla and tacos. Unlike the usual fries or sweet potato fries that other cafes serve, we had Tofu Fries $8 which comes with a salted egg yolk and wasabi mayo dip. It is basically fried 'taupok' strips, rather interesting.
From the pasta offerings, we also had the Tom Yum Chicken $12 that is served with linguine, diced chicken and tossed in tom yum sauce. This Thai fusion dish was delish, full of sweet, spicy and zesty flavours. The creation of fusion pasta dishes aren't easy but fortunately this makes the mark.
Another recommended pasta dish we had, Truffle Mushroom Carbonara $13. Regrettably, we couldn't taste a hint of truffle in the overall dish, but only on the sautéed mushroom pieces. Overall rather bland in flavour.
As for the burger options, we had a meaty feast. Here is The Hog $14 which consists of a pork patty, cheese, caramelized onions, bacon and berry jam. Like the American style, the berry jam adds a hint of sweetness. The minced pork patty is tender and oozing juicy, the overall combination is indeed packed with flavours.
Lastly, we went for the unique and uncommon flavour - Chicken Rendang Burger $12. Layered with a slab of grilled chicken thigh drenched in rendang sauce, then topped with a sunny side up. The rendang sauce was distinctively rich but I wish there were more. If not for the sauce, the chicken thigh alone tasted rather bland.
Cosy ambience with interesting mains in the heartland of Bedok, this makes a perfect spot to chill for family and friends. Besides that, there are waffles as desserts as well, otherwise Refuel Cafe is a stone throw away.
Burp Kitchen & Bar is a little rustic neighbourhood cafe and bar, the extensive menu serves up several interesting dishes and has certainly marks high in terms of affordability. Located in the corner of Bedok Reservoir and not being near any MRT station, accessibility to the place is definitely the only pitfall.
