Full Of Luck Club 福乐, Cantonese Cuisine @ Holland Village

The team behind award-winning Li Bai Cantonese Restaurant has recently introduce their latest contemporary concept, Full of Luck Club 福乐- a chic and casual Cantonese dining. Nestled in the heart of Holland Village, the new concept aims to reach out to a younger generation of food lovers who enjoy authentic and high quality Cantonese fare within a modern contemporary setting. I was stoked to find out more about this 'hipsterfied' Cantonese restaurant.

Full of Luck serves dishes inspired by Cantonese cuisine and the extensive menu include a selection of dim sum and more. Stir-fried Radish Cake with X.O Sauce $6.80 is one of their signature item from the dim sum spread. The crispy cubes of radish cakes were moist and generate a scent of 'wok-hei' where else the X.O sauce was rather subtle.

For light bites, we had the Golden Sand Corn with Salted Egg Yolk $4.80. Bits of corn is deep fried and coated with salted egg yolk, fragrant and addictive, no doubt it makes a perfect bar bite. Yes, beware. And in the foreground is the Chili Glazed Fried Fermented Bean Paste Chicken Wings $8 which we find it pretty decent.

Another alternative for something light and spicy, the Poached Wontons in Chilli Soy $7.20.

The highlight at Full Of Luck Club is the Bao Bar concept, whereby the menu offers a selection of steamed and fried baos, with choices such as the Salted Egg Yolk Prawn, Panko-crusted Portobello, Braised Pork Belly, Kung Pao Fried Chicken and Pork Chop (Any 2 for $9.80, 1 for $6). Tried 3 of them and recommend the Portobello and Kung Pao fried chicken which goes rather well with the fluffy steamed bao.

For sharing plates, you may find some of this dishes familiar in the Cantonese cuisine fare. The Spicy Stuffed Yong Tau Foo $16 features an assorted of vegetables and tofu stuffed with minced pork then seasoned with fermented bean paste. Just like the traditional Hakka Chinese version of yong tau foo.

Yet another familiarity is the Crispy Kurobuta Pork Belly $18. Pork belly marinated with fermented bean curd, Chinese wine and other signature spices. It is fragrant and well marinated but I would love to have more fatty cut on my pork belly though. Otherwise, that would be perfect.

Braised Spinach Beancurd $16 was one of my favorite dish for the night. These stack of soft home made spinach egg tofu is then finished off with deep-fried mushrooms and dried scallops. Love everything as a whole.

Fans of duck will find joy in this - Crispy Aromatic Duck ($35/half, $70/whole). This nicely deep fried crispy duck is paired with hoisin sauce, cucumber, shredded spring onions and steamed Chinese pancakes. Suggest to have it fast after the meat is shredded because the meat tends to get tougher after it is cold.

After that, DIY your own crispy duck wrap! It's the same way of making popiah, of course this is freestyle.

For staple food, there are the noodles selection and claypot rice. After all that massive spread, we had the recommended Moonlight Truffle Beef Hor Fun $20. Sliced US prime boneless short over hor fun with black garlic truffle and onsen egg. Unfortunately, I couldn't taste any of that garlic or truffle scent in this dish, it seems like any black pepper hor fun from a zhi char stall to me.

Lastly, we capped off with Hokey-Pokey Ice Cream (2 for $9.80, 1 for $6) for desserts. It is basically chocolate chips, toasted marshmallow and honeycomb ice cream sandwiched in a fried bao. Nothing fantastic in my opinion.

Full of Luck Club features a well-varied bar programme, offering creative Asian- inspired cocktails, wines, and a selection of craft beers from Hong Kong Beer Company. For beer enthusiasts, have a go at Gambler’s Gold, Dragon’s Back, or go authentic with a bottle of Hong Kong Beer

Also featuring Asian-inspired cocktails such as Wing Chun Kick – a cocktail creation made with dried chrysanthemum-infused rum, goji berries, and topped with fresh lime juice and mint, and Good Beginnings – a concoction made with Shaoxing Hua Diao, topped with cranberry juice, soda, and dried sour plum.

As the name goes, Full of Luck Club incorporates elements of fortune, luck, and prosperity into the interior and design of the space – including a two-metre tall Fortune Cat at the stairway. Interesting dining ambience with a fresh and contemporary interpretation of classic Cantonese restaurants, including an enclosed dining and bar area for group gathering. What's best, every meal here will end with a fortune cookie.

  1. Ah, I was looking for a assignment help in uk London, and I landed here somehow. And looking at these pictures, I have realized how hungry I am. Hence, before ordering my dissertation, I am going to order a burger. By the way, I regret that I didn’t visit this restaurant when I was in cantonese.
