Ronin Cafe, 17 HongKong St - Singapore

Finally visited Ronin after 2 failed attempts, as they are not active on social media, we did not know the cafe was closed for a week during the new year period. Anyway, arrived on a Saturday noon and was greeted with a huge crowd in the cafe. The interior of the cafe leans toward the dark and mysterious style with no natural lighting so photo taking can be challenging.

The menu on the wall is pretty straightforward, simple brunch food ranging from sandwiches to toast. The shoebox sized kitchen is a open concept so if you are seated near the kitchen, you may walk out reek of oil.

A visit to Ronin isn't complete without trying their signature minted mocha - Wicked (Iced $7.50). It was refreshing but I didn't exactly love it, it tasted similar to After Eight mint chocolate which I'm not quite a fan. While my partner, Vivienne finds it rather average.

Flat White $4.20 for myself which I find it pretty good.

Heard good reviews about their scrambled eggs at Ronin, so here's Scrambled Eggs on Toast $9 and we add on sausage $4.50. The scrambled eggs were fluffy and creamy, better than the usual cafe's eggs. To think about it, two sliced of toast and scrambled eggs for $9? That's pricey.

Read good reviews online about this highly raved Brioche French Toast $14.50. It is served with braised apple, bacon, hazelnut butter and syrup. The french toast was soft and moist, leans towards the less dense texture. It wasn't near to any of the best toast I had in Singapore cafes, so this came as a disappointment, at least to me.

Ronin is a good space for coffee, just avoid weekends as it can get dreadfully crowded. Given the dim interior, I believe instagrammers wouldn't have like this space. Haha. Anyway their new store, PUNCH is also somewhere nearby the vicinity with a brighter interior. Will head there next! :)
