Top Paddock Cafe, Richmond - Melbourne

One of the most popular cafe in the brunch scene of Melbourne, Top Paddock, where they are known for their brunch food and signature blueberry ricotta hotcake. After trying Paddy Hill's rendition in Singapore, I know that I need to try Australia's! Getting here was quite a hassle for us since it's our first time here in Melbourne as well as our first day. After changing trams a couple of times, we arrived with a long queue greeting us.


Since there was another 2 of us, we waited less than 20mins and got a table quickly by the coffee bar. The pricing here are generally similar to what we have in Singapore, with savoury mains starting from $18 onwards. Now you know cafe hopping in such countries ain't cheap.


The all day brunch menu is served till 3pm as they will be closed at 4pm. The menu here is rather extensive, with several types of mains and desserts to pick from. Amidst the hype of cafes, Top Paddock is no doubt the highlight in the Richmond brunch scene or even in Melbourne itself.



Sat right at the coffee bar where baristas are in action, with coffee aroma emitting from the machines.



We had a Flat White and Iced Latte. The iced coffee is a tad bland, love the flat white though.



The all day menu is pretty extensive with an average cost of about 16 dollars. We all know cafe hopping is an expensive hobby, be it in Australia or Singapore. Anyway, we had the Eggs Benedict $18.50 - alongside with free range pork jowl, poached eggs, yuzu compressed apple, pork crackling and bearnaise on baguette. The rest were pretty decent but the free range pork jowl was darn good, tender and juicy!


Of course our meal wouldn't be complete without trying Top Paddock's highly raved hotcake. I was pretty excited to try this and compare back to our local cafe Paddy Hills. This Blueberry & Ricotta Hotcake AUD19.50 is topped with berries, organic maple, seeds and double cream. Love the crispy and fragrant exterior while the inner layer is a tad dry, nonetheless still a good eat.


The interior is filled with natural lighting, making it a great space for spending time with loved ones over a good cup of coffee as well as instagrammable shots. Best if the weather is cold and chilly!


I love the space and the range of unique cafe food here, unlike the usual brunch fare we have in Singapore. Getting here can be quite a hassle if you're a first timer like myself, we lost our way. Anyway just take tram 78 and alight before a flyover, even if you missed it, just hop on again on the opposite side since it's free.
