Spatula started off as a small home-based business back in 2012, where it offers a variety of cupcakes, customized cakes/cupcakes for special events. Spatula Bakery is the brainchild of Ms Anna Majeed, with a mutual appreciation for one thing in particular: delicious desserts, and that food should always look as good as it tastes. Back then, I could still remember the first time I came to know Spatula was through Instagram.
They were known for their unique cupcakes flavours and their customer base grew exponentially within a few months! Their first store was originally at Joo Chiat and since June 2014, they have moved to its current and larger store at Frankel Avenue due to overwhelming demand.
Creative yet simple dessert menu, mainly waffles. Cakes and cupcakes flavours are all on display.
The menu for beverages, from coffee, tea, mocktails to milkshakes.
From the coffee list, we had the Nutella Latte $6. A cup of coffee with brazil and columbia beans blend, with a generous serving of Nutella added. Nutella lovers will love this sweet drink, though I would appreciate a simple latte art on coffees these days. The foam is too much for a latte too.
Another sweet treat from the milkshakes list, Speculoos Milkshake $8.50. Simply yet tasty, vanilla chocolate chip ice cream based with speculoos added.
Among the range of cupcakes flavour, we had the Boston Cream Cupcake $4.50. Vanilla chocolate chip cake base cored and filled with vanilla custard, topped with a swirl of chocolate ganache and a dollop of custard. Decent enough though I wouldn't pay $4.50 for a average cupcake, a tad too expensive.
Here's a slice of their recommended cakes, Dough or Don't Cake $7.50. It's basically vanilla chocolate chip cake layers filled with chocolate chip cookie dough, frosted with vanilla whipped cream and a chocolate chip cookie. From every bite, you could taste the texture from the chocolate chip cookie.
Tried 3 of their signature waffles, and this is my favorite among the rest - Ridiculoos Spectaculoos Waffle $13. A single scoop of chocolate chip ice cream, generous pour of speculoos spread, drizzle of maple syrup, biscuit crumbs and a wafer shard. If you love all things sweet and speculoos, this is definitely for you. Waffle texture wise is crisp and dense, be sure to go with the ice cream on every bite.
My least favorite here, Red Velvet Nutella Waffle $13. Red velvet belgian waffle topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, drizzle of Nutella and white chocolate chips. It was a tad dry within the waffle especially with the nutella, it is best eaten with the ice cream.
Did you noticed that all of their waffle dishes are presented in different ways? Smores Waffle $12, large belgian waffle filled with melted marshmallows, melted chocolate, biscuit crumbs, sandwiched with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Interesting texture of waffle with the melted marshmallows within, chewy and sweet. I personally like their ice cream flavour here, did not disappoint even though it's just vanilla.
The current store is definitely larger than before, it is a 2500-sqft store with a lower and upper deck in a modern sleek look. Spatula all things sweet, from waffles, macarons, brownies, ice cream as well as a selection of drinks. Don't forget to look out for special items baked daily by the team of talented bakers.
