Ellenborough Market Café, Peranakan Buffet @ Swissotel Merchant Court, Singapore

The Grand Dame of Peranakan cuisine returns bolder and better. Ellenborough Market Café at Swissotel Merchant Court is back with an expanded space, as well as refreshed dining halls - three dining zones updated in a heritage-meets-contemporary style. With that, it also offers an even wider international spread with action stations now.

The new space is decked in vibrant shades of turquoise and accented with sparkling diamond-cut glass wall features. With a fresh new look, the restaurant also expanded its cuisine with of signature favourites.

The buffet line includes modern peranakan cuisine, with evergreen favorites such as Ayam Buah Keluak and Babi Pongteh. The spread also includes a DIY counter for Gado-gado - a well known dish from Indonesia.

Not to miss the grilling of prawns at the live counter, located right at the entrance. The huge tiger prawns are grilled freshly on the spot, then topped with a luscious and fiery sambal sauce. On the other hand, there is also daily specials at the craving station including roast beef and leg of lamb for the meat lovers.

The extensive buffet line also include a Braised Pork Belly La Mian hand-pulled by their very own La Mian Master. This is definitely a first for me in a buffet spread. One of the staple food you can get here.

Bentos of sushi assortment for the Japanese lover, along side with cha soba and salmon and tuna sashimi.

Seafood counter include cold and cooked dishes such as the stir fried slipper lobster in black bean sauce and chilli crab!

Moving on to desserts, expect to find peranakan sweets such as these assorted nyonya kueh and their signature durian pengat. Other local desserts and traditional muah chee is also available and prepared a la minute.

Kueh Dadar live station where the chef makes the pandan crepe and roll them with grated coconut steeped in gula melaka infront of you. Tips: request the freshly rolled crepe from the chef then filled it with durian pengat yourself!

The revamped Ellenborough market cafe is no doubt extensive while they celebrates the best of Chinese and peranakan flavours, offering Asian and international delights. As you can see, the new menu highlight plenty of nonya dishes too and I'm sure the older folks and peranakans will find joy in these spread.
